Depicting unique genres and styles, Aziz Osman paints his prewar memories of Somalia and remembrances of his decades living in Italy.
Trained as an architect and painter for over two decades in Italy, Aziz Osman returned to his native Somalia only months before the outbreak of civil war. Barely escaping the conflict, he and his family made a new home in Minnesota. Though language, financial and cultural barriers were abundant, he was able to continue his artistic practice of painting. Depicting numerous genres and styles, Aziz Osman paints his prewar memories of Somalia and remembrances of his decades living in Italy.
